Graham Lister (b.1982) is a painter and researcher based in Glasgow, Scotland. In 2016, he completed a Practice-based PhD at the Glasgow School of Art.

His ongoing painting practice is concerned with using the activity of painting as a way of distilling physical forms, surfaces and experiences. His work encompasses gradual abstraction processes which investigate the visual codes and surface materialities of the spatial environments which often go unnoticed within our everyday lives. Recent exhibitions in Glasgow, Manchester, Dundee and Berlin have made use of large-scale expanded painting installations to explore ways in which movement can be controlled through the creation of internal barrier-type works.

Ongoing research relates specifically to how painting can draw into focus issues of proximity and distance through the creation of highly detailed painterly processes, expanded painting practices and the creation of exploratory personal artistic writings. Such ideas have been brought into new, challenging and interesting light during the global pandemic and this offers his ongoing practice multiple new strands of, and for, investigation.
